How to copy form fields from one PDF to another

You can copy form fields from one PDF to another without retyping. Upload your completed form and a blank copy of the same form, and RepeatForm matches your answers to the same questions in the blank copy. You preview the result, check it, then download the filled PDF. It works best when both files are the same or a recent version of the form.

Why your answers don't copy across by themselves

Copying and pasting from one PDF into another usually fails. Each form stores its answers against its own hidden field names and layout, so a new copy has nowhere to put what you typed in the old one. Retyping is the usual fallback, and it is slow and easy to get wrong. RepeatForm does the matching for you, then shows you the result before you download anything.

If you have used Acrobat-style export and import of form data, that only works when both files use the same field names.

What you need

  • ✓Two digital PDFs: your completed form and a blank copy of the same form.
  • ✓Both must be digital, text-selectable PDFs. Scans, photos and handwriting are not supported.
  • ✓A form from our tested forms list works best. See Forms we've tested.

What carries over and what doesn't

Answers that sit under the same question in both copies carry over: names, addresses, reference numbers, tick boxes and similar entries. Anything RepeatForm cannot match is left blank, so you can see what still needs filling.

Signatures, dates and statements of truth are yours to complete. Check them in the preview and replace any that carried over from your completed copy.

Newer edition or the same form again

Both cases work. Filing the same form again is the simplest: the layout is identical, so the match is straightforward. A newer edition of the form also works when it is the same or a recent version. If the layout has changed you may get fewer matches, so check the preview carefully. Get the current version of the form from the official source before you start.
